Morning Meetings

“We ought to see the face of God every morning before we see the face of man.”

What do you think about the moment you open your eyes in the morning? Does your head pop off the pillow, excited for the day’s events? Maybe you’re not a morning person and one eyelid manages to creep open hoping…pleading…for another five minutes of silence. But wait, what are your first initial thoughts? Are you consumed by all of the hundreds of things that you have to do today that are rushing in to your mind, making you completely exhausted even before getting out of bed. Doesn’t sound like a very exciting start to a day in MY book!

I’ve started taking a couple of minutes every morning after I open my eyes to prepare for the day and put my heart and mind in proper perspective. I spend a few minutes alone, just me and God. I thank Him for the opportunity to glorify Him in whatever I’m doing that day. I started praying differently in these brief minutes…not that the Lord would go with ME in work, meetings, friendship opportunities…etc. But instead, that I go where HE wants me to go today! That I would really and truly deny myself, take up my cross and follow Him. When I have this perspective my whole attitude changes (Pr. 17:22). Now dealing with people, deadlines, carpools…etc. is put in its proper place and life doesn’t seem to be so daunting.
